The Executive Board of the IMF is scheduled to convene in the forthcoming weeks to evaluate
the third review of Sri Lanka’s assistance program. According to the Director of the IMF
Communications Department, Julie Kozack, Sri Lanka will gain access to USD 333 million upon
the Board’s approval of the review.

📰 Sri Lanka welcomes over 300,000 tourists as industry gains momentum
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is experiencing strong growth, with over 300,000 arrivals recorded
in 2025 to date, reflecting optimism in the sector. The first week of February alone, recorded
more than 50,000 tourists arrivals, including 44,293 visitors in the first five days, according to
the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).

📰 President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to attend the ‘World Government Summit 2025’
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake departed Sri Lanka for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on
10 February on an official visit. Invited by UAE President Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the
President will attend the ‘World Government Summit 2025’ in Dubai and deliver a speech. He
is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Al Nahyan.

📰 Government to establish Independent Prosecutor’s Office
The Ministry of Justice and National Integration has decided to establish an Independent
Prosecutor’s Office as stated in the election manifesto of the National People’s Power (NPP).
An expert committee will prepare the concept paper on the establishment of the Independent
Prosecutor’s Office, following which the Ministry will initiate public and civil consultations.

📰 Sri Lanka appoints task force for AML/CFT evaluation
Sri Lanka has reconstituted a high-level task force to oversee the country’s preparations for its
third Mutual Evaluation on Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism
(AML/CFT), coordinated by the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG). The evaluation
will assess Sri Lanka’s compliance with the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) 40
recommendations, and the effective implementation of 11 immediate outcomes.
